In this post, I’ll compare the Aquasana vs. Pelican vs. Jonathan shower filter to see which is the best. All these three filters are among the popular brands on the market.
Jonathan, Aquasana & Pelican Shower Filters Comparision.
To compare the Three, I look at the following features and capabilities.
- Filtration Technology
- Ability to remove contaminants
- Efficiency
- Flow rate
- Design
1. Filtration Technology
Shower filters are meant to remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals found in water to prevent skin and hair damage. To begin with, when choosing a shower filter, it is important to know which filtration technology it uses. Second, the number of filtration stages. Currently, most shower filters manufacturers use carbon and KDF for filtering.
Note, whereas both carbon and KDF are good at removing chlorine, they are no able to get rid of other contaminants found in water.
Pelican filtration technology
Pelican uses a three-stage filtration process:
KDF (copper and zinc)
KDF is a combination of copper and zinc alloy which is good at filtering free chlorine. Importantly, Pelican uses a patented formed of copper and zinc alloy which they claim is more efficient in removing chlorine and some other contaminant.
GAC carbon
GAC carbon is a blend of activated carbon designed to filter chloramines and synthetic chemicals. The special blend of steam activated carbon media is patented by Pelican water Inc
Infrared Balls
This volcanic material that emitting infrared rays. Consequently, it helps in reducing negative ions in water. The ray help in improved hydration.
Aquasana Filtration technology
Aquasana uses carbon and copper/zinc. For carbon media, Aquasana uses a natural coconut shell carbon to remove chlorine. Note, The filter uses the normal KDF (copper/Zinc) to that further reduces chlorine and improves water pH.
Jonathan Filtration Technology
Jonathan has a two-stage process. In the first stage, It filters through a process of oxidation by adding potassium ions. The Second stage, Water is taken through activated carbon to remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals. Note, Jonathan shower filter uses granular activated carbon.
Section Winner: Pelican shower filter
Because Pelican uses a three-stage filtration process. Also, they have a better copper/zinc alloy. Consequently, It reduces negative ions; thus, improving hydration. Also, because of the three-stage filtration, Pelican can remove more chemicals from water.
2. Ability to remove contaminants
- Chlorine
- Chloramines
- Heavy Metals e.g. lead
- Synthetic chemicals e.g. pesticides
- Hydrogen sulphide
- unpleasant odors
- Chlorine
- Heavy metals
- Synthetic chemicals
- Hydrogen sulphide
- volatile organic compounds.
- Chlorine
- Removes Toxic Heavy metals
- Balances water pH .
- Pesticides and other sythetic chemicals
- Removes copper and lead and replaces them with potassium ions
Section winner: Pelican
Pelican ability to removes chloramines because of using they patented copper/zinc alloy gives them a slight advantage over Aquasana and Jonathan shower filter.
3. Efficiencies
For Efficiencies, we compare Aquasana vs. pelican filtration capacity per cartridge and also the flow rate.
Pelican efficiencies
Pelican shower filter can process 15, 000 gallons of water per cartridge, which approximately six months worth water depending on the consumption.
Aquasana efficiencies
Aquasana cartridges process up to 10,000 gallons of water which can also last up to six months depending on the consumption.
Jonathan Efficiencies
Filters 10,000 gallons per cartridge at 2.5 gpm.
Section Winner: Pelican shower filter.
Pelican can process 15, 000 while Aquasana and Jonathan processes 10,000
4. Flow Rate
The flow rate of shower filter is measured in Gallon per minute (gpm)
Pelican
Pelican has a flow rate of 1.5gpm.
Aquasana
Aquasana shower filter has a maximum flow rate of 2.5gpm. Also, it can be adjusted downward depending on your preference. Further, a unique up-flow design which gives it good pressure and flow rate.
Jonathan
Jonathan has a flow rate of 2.5gpm
Flow rate winner:
Aquasana and Jonathan shower filter are the winner of this section because they have a flow rate of 2.5 while pelican has a maximum flow rate of 1.5gpm.
5. Design
Under design, we will examine the material, color, and weight.
Pelican
Pelican shower filter is made of plastic, and it is white. It weighs 2.7 pounds. You have the option of selecting a chrome color. Finally, It has an accessory crepe, and you can hang
Aquasana
Aquasana is made of plastic, and it is white and weighs 2.6 pounds.
Jonathan
Jonathan is made of iron and has the chrome finish. Also, Jonathan can work with either handheld showerhead or Fixed Showerhead.
Section winner: Jonathan shower filter
In the section of the design, the clear winner is Jonathan shower filter because it has a solid design and it is a robust filter that cannot break easily. Also, Jonathan shower filter can work with both handheld unit and fixed shower head.
6. Unique features
Under this section, we look at the unique selling points of each of these two shower filter.
Pelican
The unique feature of Pelican shower filter includes.
- Ocean breeze scent bar with an accessory crepe. Remember, you can choose to use this aromatherapy ocean breeze or not use it. As per the installation manual, Pelican has a patented zinc/copper media that is able to remove chloramines
Aquasana
- Massaging shower head with multiple pressure settings to give the user variety
Jonathan
- Jonathan filter adds potassium ions in water to balance the pH through a process of oxidation. Therefore, the water feels more pure and fresh.
Section Winner: Draw
The Winner of this section is Jonathan shower filter because of the oxidation process that produces pH balanced water. The runners-up are pelican shower filter. Because in addition to having ocean breeze scent bar. It has an accessory clip. For Aquasana the unique feature is messaging head.
7. Final Recount
Pelican shower filter won on the following sections: Filtration technology, removing different contaminants, and Efficiencies. Thus, giving it a score of 3/6
Aquasana shower filter Was the winner in the following section: Flow rate. Thus, this is a score of 1/6
Jonathan shower filter was the winner in the design and unique features section. Therefore, a score of 2/6
Final verdict
So, if you’re in a dilemma which is better Pelican shower filter Vs. Aquasana shower filter, I would recommend you go for a pelican shower filter.
Further, It is more efficient in removing more water contaminants found in shower water. Besides, Pelican filters process more water which is 15,000 gallons per single which is one of the highest in the market.
Finally, Pelican uses a three-stage filtration process as compared to Aquasana which uses a two-stage filtration process. You can view Pelican shower filter on Amazon.
